Yangzhou, a dazzling gem nestled in the central Jiangsu Province of China, on the northern bank of the Yangtze River and at the southern tip of the Jianghuai Plain, has long been renowned for its rich history and profound cultural heritage. It holds the honor of being one of China's first national historic and cultural cities and is esteemed as the "First City of the Grand Canal in China," speaking volumes about its historical status and cultural value.
As the birthplace of the Grand Canal and the leader in its application for World Heritage status, Yangzhou witnessed the grand occasion in 2014 when the Chinese Grand Canal was proudly inscribed on the World Heritage List. The Yangzhou section, with its unique charm and features, stands as an indispensable part of this world-class cultural corridor.
To this day, Yangzhou has not only preserved ancient buildings and cultural traditions that bear witness to the vicissitudes of time but has also breathed new life and vigor into itself in the tide of the times, becoming a city that blends classical charm with modern vibes. Here, the shimmering waters of Slim West Lake, the quaint tranquility of Mengcheng Post, the natural scenery of Zaolin Bay, and the morning and evening bells of Daming Temple all draw tourists from all corners of the world to explore its unique allure.
